China Blues

What the?

Imagine going someplace you don't want to go (China), when you'd rather be some place else (Sgp/Chch/Kch), during the holiday season (Chinese New Year) when everything is C-A-R-A-Z-Y, and to top it all off theres a natural disaster on the doorstep of your hotel (freak snowstorm).

Mish mash of elements... it's a crazy world!!

Yes, that would have summed up my trip to China. Where Hong Kong is dynamic and ever changing. China seems to be stuck in some dark age where they think tacky theme parks are still fun and cool.

I know I'm not earning any favours from the Chinese by making my previous statement, in fact I've probably earned myself a place in front of a chinese communist firing squad. But please, please, hear me out...

Having landmarks from the rest of the world shrunken down and strewn all over the place does not constitute fun. In fact, its shamelessly ridiculous mostly because you can't think up anything original or you don't have anything else to showcase and, in addition to that, its also very very very fucking tacky.

The Merlion of Singapore looks NOTHING like the shrunken version, the details of the tiles of the Sydney Opera House look NOTHING like the original, the Aroha gate and marae are classical Hawaiian architecture as well as New Zealand, Niagara Falls doesn't trickle with water, Versaille and the Vatican are in 2 countries seperated by hundred of miles, and the Sphinx and the Pyramids of Egypt were made of sandstone, not some muddy coloured plastic. Case and point - the following photos:

It's supposed to be a bit bigger...

NZ and Ozzy mashed together... why is the marae distinctly NZ??

Niagara Falls... honestly??

Versaille (France) in the foreground and the Vatican (Italy) in the back... doesn't make geographical sense...

This one doesn't make geographical sense either...

Thats not really sandstone as much as it is plastic...

'Theme Parks' like this should be an embarassment to that God forsaken country. If you're going to attempt anything tacky like that, there should be adequate detail put into everything. Or else you'll just end up embarassing yourself and the cultures you try to imitate. For fucksakes, people!!

PS: Would have totally taken more photos but unfortunately the sky decided to piss down on me and my camera got caught in the rain and fried itself... Thats a story for another day...

Photographer's Creed

This is my camera. There are many like it but this one is mine.My camera is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my camera is useless. Without my camera, I am useless. I must shoot my camera true. Before God I swear this creed: my camera and myself are defenders of the art of photography, we are the masters of composition, we are the saviors of memories. So be it, until there are no elusive shots left, but good, decent, photography. Amen.
